Dr. Vassilis C. Gerogiannis holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics, as well as a PhD in Software Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece. He is a full time Professor in the Department of Digital Systems of the School of Technology at the University of Thessaly, Greece. His academic subject is “Analysis and Design of Systems and Projects with Emphasis on Decision Making”. In the recent past, he was a full time Professor in the Department of Business Administration at the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly, Greece. From 2004, he is also Adjunct Professor, teaching Software Engineering at the Hellenic Open University and Module Leader, teaching (Software) Project Management at Postgraduate Programs of Studies offered by the University of Thessaly. He is a visiting Professor at foreign Higher Education Institutes/Universities, among them at the IPAG Business School, Paris & Nice, France, and at the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon.

From 1992 until present, Prof. Gerogiannis has participated as technical consultant, software engineer, project manager and research director in several R&D projects funded by EU or national organizations. He has authored/coauthored more than 130 papers published in international journals/conference proceedings, which have been cited in a plethora of citations, as well as he has coauthored and edited three scientific books. He acts as guest editor, member of the editorial board and reviewer in international journals. He serves as program chair, member of the organization/technical committee and invited speaker in international conferences. He has received the “best paper award” in two international conference. His current research interests include Software Engineering, Project Management and Decision Making.

During his service at the Technological Education Institute of Thessaly, Prof. Gerogiannis was Head of the Business Administration Department, Scientific Director of the Institute for Continuous Education, as well as Member of the Management Committee of the Technological Research Center of Thessaly. He has also served as Vice President of the Greek Union of Computer Scientists, General Secretary of the ICT Chapter of the Greek Technical Chamber of Engineers and General Secretary of the Technical Chamber in the Region of Central and Western Greece.

At present, Prof. Gerogiannis serves as Member of the Management Board of the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC), Member of the Regional Council for Research and Innovation in the Region of Thessaly, Member of the Management Committee of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Institute in the Research Center IASON of the University of Thessaly, Member of the Management Committee of the Technical Chamber of Engineers in the Region of Central and Western Greece, Member of the Central Assembly of the Technical Chamber of Greece, as well as Member of the Scientific Committee of Electronics Engineers in the Technical Chamber of Greece.

i) ESPRIT project 8906 CLEAR-Components and Libraries for Embedded Applications in Real-time (1993 -1995). Result: The project has developed a real-time, run-time product set which includes an operating system, a development environment and a simulation environment, for both low- and high-end embedded software development. End-users: RENAULT (embedded automotive real-time control applications), ZELTRON-ELECTROLUX (embedded control in white goods applications).

ii) ESPRIT project 20576 TOOLS-Tools for Design and Validation of Embedded Control Systems (1995 –1998). Result: An integrated set of tools covering the entire development cycle of real-time applications, namely: verification, system modelling and simulation, monitoring, performance evaluation and traceability. End-users: THOMSON-CSF (braking control in aircraft applications).

iii) ESPRIT project 20899 ANTI-CRASH - ANDF Technology in C for reliable safety critical hard real-time systems (1995-1997). Result: Development and industrial production of software and hardware tools focusing on the Architecture Neutral Distribution Format (ANDF) technology. The project has evaluated the performance of ANDF when it is used to retarget the language and the processor environment. End-users: THOMSON-CSF (vetronics and pantograph braking systems).

iv) ESPRIT project 23256 TotEm - Totally Emulated Embedded Systems (1996 – 1998). Result: Integration of a software environment that constituted by EOS (a highly configurable Real-Time Operating System on Windows and Solaris host platforms), LCT (a Logic Compiler Technology that allows the application developers to prove the correctness of implementation against specification), PREDICTA (a performance prediction tool that extracts features of the system under analysis by means of symbolic execution of models) and SCAN (a schedulability analysis tool that allows developers to correctly study and define the timing behaviour of their applications). End-users: THOMSON-CSF, Crouzet Automatismes (automotive, space industry, consumer electronics).

v) ESPRIT project 23920 SAFE - Safe Ada for Embedded Applications in real-time (1997-1999). Result: Contribution to the definition and the implementation of a complete development process for safety-critical software. The project emphasized on software safety, portability and reusability for embedded systems. The approach combined compilers technology, formal methods techniques and safety-schedulability analysis methods. End-users: Thomson-CSF, Crouzet Automatismes (pantograph control for TGV high-speed trains).
